Deep Brain Stimulation
I can't help feeling sorry for Mr. Guile has he endures this seemingly endless operation. But the end results are miraculous if not scientific. What my question is, is how does a doctor find the treatment for parkinson's Disease without knowing how it works? Guile even writes that neither he nor his group of doctors "Team Hubris" can say with certainty what is occurring deep within his central fissure.
The article also made mention of Michael J. Foxx's surgery in 1998 and how the surgery was performed by lesioning a portion of the brain. Wow. When I began reading I couldn't stop thinking about how primative the procedure was, and how the treatment reminds me of the blood letting days of Europe. While we've come a long way from that in nuerology we are definitley still in the baby steps.
Poor Michael J. Foxx
Here is an article on Marijuana as a treatment to Parkinsons.
