Is Bio 9G Right for You?

Warning!

Bio 9G is designed to be VERY interactive, VERY interesting, and VERY difficult. You will enjoy it much more than you think you will, but you will also have to work much harder than you want to. You will NOT be allowed to drop or switch to P/NP after the second week of class. Please ONLY enroll if you are willing to come to class, actively participate and talk to your neighbors, and spend time outside of class working to understand the material. See the class syllabus for more information.

Textbook:

There is no required textbook for this class, but you may find access to a physiology textbook REALLY helps you as a reference. I will be using images from Human Physiology: An Integrated Approach by Dee Unglaub Silverthorn, 4th Edition. Ask your Bio major friends if they have a spare you can use. I have deliberately made the book one that you can borrow or buy used so that you will have money available for the clicker. I do not have spare books on reserve.

Clicker:

You must purchase a clicker (iClicker brand ONLY) at the UCI Bookstore. You may use a roommate's or friend's if they don't need it this quarter, but you must register it to your UCInetID here. You cannot get a good grade without a clicker, and you cannot use a different brand.

Internet:

As you might have guessed from the presence of this blog, the course requires the use of the internet. If you do not have easy access to the internet and a printer at home, you will have a much more difficult time with this class. Lack of access will not excuse you from any assignment.

If you are still interested in taking this course, I'm excited to have you! Physiology is a fascinating subject, and everyone can learn it in this class.
