Blood is most definitely red. It is a bright red when oxygenated and a darker red when deoxygenated. It just "looks" blue because you're seeing it through your skin. The light reflected from tissue over the vein contains less red light than blue light. The blood also absorbs certain colors of light and reflect others back through the skin.
In class I thought that blood was red or blue depending on oxygen, but after doing some research, I now believe that blood is just red. I have attached the article that explains and tests the question Why do veins appear blue?

Red
I've read a few different articles, most seem to say that blood is red, but there are those few that say it's blue until oxygen hits the blood to turn it red. I am going to have agree with the people that said it is red and just a lighter and darker red at different times as opposed to sometimes being red and sometimes being blue.
The blood is red. It is bright red when the blood is well oxygenated and a darker red when blood contains low oxygen. It is possible to show bluish color under certain areas of the skin. This is known as cyanosis.
So the answer is the color of the blood is red but it can appear as red or blue depending on the amount of the oxygen.
I've also read that it appears blue because of the color of veins...however seeing multiple surgeries before, I have never seen a blue vein haha!
All kinds of red.
It is just a darker red when it is deoxygenated. So do not be deceived, as I was, by clicker question number one... blue blood is a myth!
yup..its red
blood is red, all the time. and it does come in different shades of red.
